Compulsory motor third party liability insurance for damage caused by vehicles (RCA) is an insurance contract concluded between the owner and/or user of a vehicle and the licensed insurer.
Persons using vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova are obliged to conclude compulsory RCA insurance contracts, according to the legal provisions (Law on Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance No. 106 of 21.04.2022).
If a driver causes an accident on the territory of the Republic of Moldova resulting in material damage and/or bodily injury, the insurer will pay compensation to the injured third parties, according to the RCA insurance.
RCA insurance provides coverage for any damage or bodily injury caused by a road accident, caused by the owner/user of the vehicle on the territory of the Republic of Moldova
The liability limits of the domestic RCA compulsory insurance are:
for material damage caused by one and the same accident, regardless of the number of injured persons, the compensation limit is 100,000 euros, with the equivalent in lei at the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu
for bodily injury and death caused by one and the same accident, the compensation limit is 100,000 euros - for one injured person or 500,000 euros - for several injured persons, regardless of their number, with the equivalent in lei at the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu
Insured event:
Within the framework of the compulsory motor third party liability insurance, the insured event is the accident caused by a motor vehicle, the owner of which has fulfilled the obligation of compulsory insurance of motor vehicle civil liability, causing damage:
a) both during movement and while the vehicle is stationary;
b) following the accidental detachment, during the movement of the vehicle, of trailers, semi-trailers or trailers;
c) caused by the devices or installations with which the vehicle was equipped;
d) following the accidental leakage, spillage or fall of substances, materials or objects transported;
e) when getting into and out of the vehicle.
The compensation provided for by the compulsory motor vehicle civil liability insurance contract RCA is paid regardless of the number of accidents that occurred during the insurance period.
